Obedience and Rally Demonstration. Our judge for the Obedience and Rally classes at the Resort will be Nancy Withers while Barbara Mattes will be the AKC Evaluator for a Canine Good Citizen Test open to all breeds. This year we will be given a demonstration after the judging of Obedience and Rally by one of our accomplished per- formance trainers, Rose Miller. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings we will hold “Hospitality” nights after the day’s activities wind down. Our Host Club, Brandywine English Setter Club, will be welcoming attendees on Tuesday night with hors-d’oeuvres and beverages, while Hudson English Set- ter Club and New England English Setter Club will host Wednesday evening’s hospitality gathering with an ice cream social. Buckeye English Setter Club will host the final night of Hospitality on Thursday. Wednesday, October 24th, will start our Conformation Judging. The new 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy class will open the conformation ring with judging by Jack Gohde. After the beginner puppy competition, each year, the English Setter Association of America promotes breeders to enter the puppies in their litters in our Futurity/Matu- rity program. Enrollment for this program is designed to allow ESAA Breeder Members to showcase their puppies and they enter their litters in the ESAA Futurity. This begins even before the litters are born when breeders nominate their litters by completing entry into the pro- gram with a series of small registration fees. The puppies are then judged in a special class at the National each year to vie for the Best in Futurity and the Best of Oppo- site in the Futurity. The classes entered at the National are based on the enrollment period and not necessarily by their actual age. The class an entrant may be enrolled in is determined by its age on August 31st of the National year, not its age on the date of the Futurity stake itself. The Futurity Stake is open to all members of the ESAA who have complied with the Rules of Eligibility for entered dogs. Each dog entered in a Futurity Class must also be entered in one of the Regular Classes of the National Specialty with which is held. The 2018 Futu- rity Stake is open only to those dogs that are between six months of age and 18 months of age on August 31, 2018. The winners of each class in the futurity receive a percentage of the dues paid by the breeders of enrolled puppies with the majority of the money awarded to the Best in Futurity and Best of Opposite in Futurity. Following the judging of the Futurity nominated pup- pies, there is a competition for those puppies who were enrolled in the Futurity two years prior to August 31, 2018 and is called the Maturity Stake. These dogs are dogs who are now between 18 months and two years old. The Maturity Stake shall be open to all members of the ESAA who have complied with the Rules of Eligibil- ity for entered dogs. There are no additional fees associ- ated with the Maturity class but each dog entered in a Maturity Class must also be entered in one of the Regular Classes of the National Specialty with which the Maturity

is held. The 2018 Maturity Stake is open only to those dogs that were between 6 months of age and 18 months of age on August 31, 2016. Regular class judging begins after the Futurity/Maturity stakes judging is complete. ESAA offers classes for dogs and bitches in Puppy, 12-15 and 15-18 Month, Bred-By- Exhibitor, Amateur Owner Handler, American Bred, and Open. We also offer non-regular classes in Stud Dog/Brood Bitch, Field Dog and Bitch, Veteran, and Brace Teams. On Wednesday afternoon and into the evening, we begin judging of the Veteran Sweepstakes and the Top 20 Invitational. This year, the Veteran Sweepstakes will be judged by ESAA breeder, Lourdes Fernandes. The judges for the Top 20 Invitational are kept secret until judging starts. This year the theme for the Top 20 competition and dinner is “When In Rome” and there should be a gala time as attendees dress up in togas or formal attire. During the events of the week, there are many opportu- nities to take chances on fund-raising raffles and we will also have a “Duck Toss”, which should prove to be a lot of fun. Judge Rick LeBeau will be judging the Stud Dog/ Brood Bitch competition with Ms. Sharon Lyons judging the Dog Classes and Mrs. Paula Nykiel judging all Bitch, Intersex and Junior Showmanship Classes. Our Juniors Program, designed to foster good sportsman- ship and comradery, will include a Scavenger Hunt and Pizza Party on Thursday afternoon. Juniors also partici- pate in a Junior’s handling workshop. Late afternoon and early evening, ESAA offers a Judge’s Education Program for those people aspiring to become judges or who wish to learn as much as they can about the English Setter breed. The program includes a Power- Point presentation, lecture and a hands-on evaluation of English Setter conformation. Later in the evening on Thursday, members will gather together for a Breeder’s Roundtable Discussion lead by four of our experienced breeders and then a heartwarming slide presentation compiled of candids collected from members all over the country created by Jill Warren. After breed judging is over, Friday evening marks the conclusion of the ESAA National with the Annual Ban- quet and Awards Presentation. But the party isn’t over as many members remain at the National to compete in the Regional Specialty on Saturday and Sunday hosted by Brandywine English Setter Club with judging for the Sweepstakes by Colleen McGee after which, regular class judging is done by Lisa Warren. French Bulldog: National Sunday October 28-31 Regional November 1-2 This year the National will be held at the Beautiful Crowne Plaza. This hotel is a true gem to the dog show community, and is always welcoming to both Specialties, Nationals and the Kentuckiana Cluster. The show will be held in the main ballroom and the many events associated with the National will be held in adja- cent banquet halls, and meetings rooms.
