Lines From Linda After The Shows, Southern Hospitality BY LINDA AYERS TURNER KNORR S ummer social- izing was in full swing in South Carolina during

The motor home and Harley were already loaded as the couple would be hitting the road for a well deserved vaca- tion just after Best in Show on Sunday evening. More on that next month. Bobbie Fairbanks hosted Collie fanciers for all the South- ern fried chicken and picnic fixings you can imagine. As one of the breed’s matriarchs, Bobbie is an inspiration to all who can only hope to accomplish all that she has done for our sport. Azalea Hill Collies get their name from the magnificent plants grown by the Fairbanks at their former nurseries. Just imagine four acres of azaleas with Collies roaming free (when they venture out from the air conditioning). It’s a sight made for movies. It was especially exciting to meet Bobbie’s guests, new- comers, Tyler and Brenna Godlevsky and their three girls. Five-year-old Kimber and Briella, age six, are all excited about taking part in Pee Wee events. Hanna is a 13-year-old teen who has already shown in Confirmation once and is eager to enter the Juniors ring. The future of our sport lives in new families like the Godlevskys! How wonderful that new friends like Bobbie Fairbanks and Nancy Reid are taking them under their wings. Nancy Reid is a celebrity herself in our state. Yes, she has bred a long line of Collie Champions. But her father was the President of Clemson University. Here blood runs orange because of the Tigers National Championship football teams. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so enjoy the scenes where Southern Hospitality reigned “after the shows.”

the Carolina Foothills Clus- ter. After the shows, com- petitors gathered to enjoy friendships and southern hospitality at the homes of Frank and Deb Murphy and Bobbie Fairbanks. You haven’t really lived until you’ve tasted the Mur- phy’s fall off the bone ribs and slow cooked brisket! Seriously, no professional chef could top Frank and

Deb. They always have enough food to feed an army. Lucky me, Deb knows the oven at my home is never used, so she always sends me home loaded with enough goodies to last for a week! Yummy! Visitors were happy to spend quality time with AKC Vice President of Sports and Events, Doug Ljungren and his wife Judy Cheshire. Like the energizer bunny, Doug never stops, so seeing him relaxing on the front porch with friends was great! Just outside of Greenville, the Murphy’s home and kennels are tucked away on seven acres with a well stocked pond.
