SHOWSIGHT: NEWS & NOTEWORTHYS SHOWSIGHT CONTRIBUT- ING EDITOR HONORED WITH AWARD

The Dog Writers Association of America honored our own Kate Eldredge for her October 2015 article entitled, “The Value of Type.” The piece weighed the importance of a dog’s type, temperament and soundness—in that order. Ms. Eldredge was awarded the 2016 Op-Ed Maxwell Medallion; our heartfelt congrats to all the nominees and to Kate!

SHOWSIGHT WELCOMES A NEW TEAM MEMBER

At Westminster we had even more to cel- ebrate, as Deanna Rotkowski has joined the ranks of the happiest magazine in dogdom. Shown (l to r) are star columnist Jackie Fogel, the editor and Deanna enjoying the Tuesday night judging at the Garden. Dean- na joins AJ Arapovic and Joe DePetro of our terrific sales force. We all say welcome, congratulations and good luck, Deanna! Photo by Jackie’s long-suffering (oops, oops, we mean wonderfully cooperative) husband Tom Rich.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR I wanted to personally thank the magazine for something you all did for me and my veterinarian three years ago. About three years ago, my veterinarian’s three-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a terrible type of brain tumor. The type of tumor she had is almost always fatal. The little girl underwent surgery and then aggressive chemo and other treatments. During her convalescence, her mom was looking for some quiet games that could be played by the little girl and her elder sister. I thought that a “Game of Dog Shows” would be interac- tive and fun for both girls. I knew ShowSight Magazine had wonderful pictures of dogs. I called the office to ask if I could buy some magazines and Michael Veras, the Doll- McGinnis Operations Manager, said he would be happy to send me some. He was gracious and offered to send the ShowSight Magazines free of charge. I spent a lot time carefully cutting out and then laminating about 100 dogs and LOTS of ribbons! Then I sent a large manila envelope full of this “Dog Show Game” to the vet. She said that the girls really enjoyed playing with the dogs and the ribbons. Now for the wonderful news! The little girl has been cancer-free for the

therapy dog certification at one of our events—and her artistic daughter did face-painting. I can also see local specialty clubs that are dying because the members are getting old and tired, and, unfortunate- ly, have never made much of an effort to lure “pet owners” to their meetings. When was the last time they invited someone to a meeting or an event? Sometimes I wonder if the local spe- cialty clubs are the ones most in need of this new department? Sincerely, Mary Alice Eschweiler, Waukesha KC Delegate CORRECTION CORNER In the February edition of ShowSight Magazine , GCH Willow Wind Money’s Still Talkin’ at First Class, “MonteCarlo” was incorrectly listed as the number one Bedlington Terrier, all systems 2016. MonteCarlo is, instead, number one Bedlington Terrier in breed stats 2016. In fact, GCH First Class Hats Off To Willow Wind at Saratoga, “Saratoga” was the #1 Bedlington Terrier all breed stats 2016. Our sincere apologies for the error and congrats to Mrs. Fogel for having two beautiful pups in the top spots for 2016! Also, we are overwhelmed by all the kind words and good news—to our contribu- tors and readers, thank you. -Ed.

three past years and other than regular checkups leads a normal life! Thank you so very much for helping me help my beloved friends, Elaine Sweet Mason LETTER TO THE EDITOR Thank you to Mrs. Linda Ayers Turn- er Knorr for sharing her article, “Excit- ing News for the New Year: AKC Club Development Department” in the Janu- ary edition of ShowSight Magazine . What wonderful news! I am proud to be a member of three clubs—all-breed, obedience and local specialty clubs—which are healthy and growing. They have been that way because people are welcoming to newcomers and novices, generally non- judgmental and have a positive attitude about doing a variety of things. New people are given an opportunity to take positions within the clubs. One of my puppy buyers arranged for us to have a
