The first place winner who won a $500 scholarship and $500 towards the trip to The National Championship show in Orlando was Eden Destache about the Akita. 2nd Place, a $500 scholar- ship was won by Brandon Mass about the Newfoundland. We encourage you to read their projects on our website www.waukeshakennelclub.org. The youngsters’ submissions were judged by a panel of experts from the WKC. The finalists’ efforts were pub- lished in the WKC online website and people were invited to appreciate

and vote for their favorite. Votes were tabulated and a winner chosen! Eden Destache was the winner with her project on the Akita. She and her father attended the AKC National Champion- ship in Orlando, Florida this year. We encourage other kennel clubs to consider similar contests. Recently, the Wauke- sha Kennel Club (Waukesha, Wisconsin) implemented an educational scholar- ship program to encourage young peo- ple to appreciate and become involved with the sport of purebred dogs. We contacted all the middle school teachers in our county to help us in our goal. Students were invited to sub- mit a project—an essay, PowerPoint presentation or something else of the student’s choosing to highlight an AKC breed of dog. The subject of the project was “If I could have any AKC
