FOR THE LOVE OF PUREBRED DOGS by ALVIN N. “BEEP” LEE, JR.

I n the 1950s my parents were always competing in one thing or another. My father was a nation- ally ranked body builder, and another hobby of his was building and exhibiting custom cars. He also made a living as a commercial artist. My mother had the talent and the eye for putting together a successful breeding program. I believe all that artistic talent and com- petitiveness added to my family’s love and appreciation of quality dogs. My family background gave me the knowl- edge and passion required to follow in my father’s footsteps to become a suc- cessful professional handler and person I am today. My parents were the driving force for my passion of the pure bred dogs from a very early age. We began breeding Boxers in the late 50s. Our first quality show dog was a Boxer bitch named Ch. Truly Fair, she became our foundation, such a lovely bitch. She was the dam of our home bred male Ch. Yours Trulee, one of many champions. My father had been working as an assistant to a professional handler named Ben Brown. After a short period, dad decided to handle our own dogs. His great friends in those early days were Harry Sangster and the talented Mr. Joe Gregory to name a few. As a kid I was only too excited to help the big guys with any thing they would entrust me with, even if it was only carrying water jugs or picking up after dogs. Just being around these masters taught me so many valuable things, things that would ultimately influence and shape “MY PARENTS WERE THE DRIVING FORCE FOR MY PASSION OF THE PURE BRED DOGS FROM A VERY EARLY AGE.”
