2021 WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB

‘THE GARDEN’ BLOOMS AT LYNDHURST WESTMINSTER 2021

I f there was ever any doubt that the sport of dogs had the ability to rebound in a post-pandemic world, the members of the Westminster Kennel Club offered irrefutable proof that a well-organized and experienced organization can capably host an event without sacrificing safety—or style. On the anniversary of the iconic New York club’s 145th year, the nation’s most revered dog show wasn’t celebrated in Madison Square Garden in the dead of winter as it has since the Victorian Age. Instead, “The Garden” bloomed this year on the verdant lawn of one of America’s finest estates overlooking the Hudson River. At Lyndhurst, exhibitors quickly discovered that none of the show’s luster was diminished by its hav- ing been transplanted to a “summer home.” In fact, Westminster 2021 only seemed to flourish in the out-of-doors, and the 2,587 dogs entered seemed overjoyed to be back in the ring. So, too, did the exhibitors, stewards, and judges who were fortunate enough to gather in what was certainly the most extravagant and technologically advanced indoor/outdoor venue ever assembled on behalf of purebred dogs. We hope that readers will enjoy SHOWSIGHT’s coverage of the 2021 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. —Dan Sayers
