JUST JUDY’S THOUGHTS A BEAGLE FINDS HIS FAMILY

by JUDY THOMPSON OHA

I n the July issue of Top Notch Toys, I wrote a piece entitled “Lassie Came Home!”. It was about dogs that found their way back home to their families despite great distances and challenging condi- tions. A reader, Nicki Trabilsy, sent one more truly amazing story, a story which I am pleased to share: “When I was a preteen, we moved from the west end of the rather sizable

city of Plainfield, New Jersey to an east side apartment that would not allow our little Beagle. So we gave him to my mother’s best friend who lived eight miles north of us. The new apartment was about fourteen miles from the old one and Chubby had never been there. About five the next morning my moth- er awoke to a dog baying at our door and there was Chubby. We figured he made his way to the old house first,

but how he knew where to go from there is a mystery that will never be solved. We were so flabbergasted! And oh, how we wished he could talk! My mother’s friend was always very careful to see that he was secure in her house every night after that and we saw him so often and his new owners spoiled him so much that he soon settled into his new surroundings.”
