Castlewood’s Morrigan Le Fay, winner of Best in Breed for Standard Schnauzers: AKC Nationals for Virtual Trick Dog Elite Performer, November, 2023. There were 3 top winners of the qualified dogs out of over 200 dogs from about 40 States, and Canada. Each dog entered into the National competition had to have earned an “Elite Performer” title.
After the three top overall winners, three judges then reviewed only the qualified dogs in each breed category to select Best in Breed, if merited. Morrigan was one of the Qualified and then selected afterwards as Best in Breed with a special rosette. “Best in Breed” titles were given only at the three judges’ discretion. The video required 6 minutes of approved Elite Performer level tricks within a creative storyline and script with music and approved number of props. All the rules are on the AKC website. It was a lot of fun and work... but Morrigan is a beautiful SS with such a heart and verve for everything ...especially her good works as a therapy dog with youth in libraries and seniors at residences. She’s excelled in Barn Hunts, FAST CATS, Trick dog in all its levels, and was a natural in Farm Dog... having formerly lived on a farm herding pheasants. We fortunately obtained Morrigan when she was just 6 years old as her caring owner Marge relocated into a much smaller place with several SS’s; however, we are in close touch with Marge, and visit several times a year to get together with Morrigan’s past mate Gibbs and her daughter Sally. Morrigan came to us well trained with a marvelous temperament, affectionate nature, curious, vigilant, and obedient. Keeping true to our contract to keep her task-oriented and creatively engaged, Morrigan’s earned 25 titles in the past six years. We are looking for two more titles in early 2024. More than anything else though, life and adventures with Morrigan is a journey of love and companionship. Morrigan’s been a tremendous gift of love to us and so many who look forward to seeing and benefiting from her natural goodness, fun, and talents. JOHN JD SCHWESKA AND PETER TWILL, CO-OWNERS
