A memorial service for dog show judge James R. White was held Monday, Octo- ber 2, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Morehead City, North Carolina. Jim and his wife Wanda were active members there where he served as a Deacon. Attending his Sunday School class and Tuesday morning prayer breakfast were favorite parts of his week. Jim attended the Citadel and the Institute of Gov- ernment, served in the US Air Force before joining the NC Highway Patrol, then finally retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles Law Enforcement Divi- sion. He also loved being a Master Mason. During their 62-year marriage Jim and his wife Wanda enjoyed breeding and exhibiting Basset Hounds and Smooth Fox Terriers. Jim became an AKC Conformation Judge in 1971 with assignments taking him all over the US and many foreign countries, also including the Westminster Kennel Club as well as the AKC Eukanuba National Dog Show. Jim also served on the AKC Trial Board. Any time I think of Jim and Wanda White a big smile comes across my face. When I lost my beloved Smooth Fox Terrier, “Kiwi,” Jim and Wanda were standing by to console me offering to give me one of their champions. In 1992, Jim and I were participants at the AKC Judging Institute in California. Our class was huge and the staff was packed with many of Dogdom’s greatest personalities. Jim was a gregarious, fun loving gentle- man and he became one of the leaders of the attend- ees at our conference. Everyone who was part of the 1992 group will recall the fun we had playing tricks on Jim with notes from “imaginary” Lola. Wanda later joined in as the legend continued over the years. Oh, What fun!
