D oing what he loved most, our beloved AKC Board Member Steven Daniel Gladstone was on a dog show judging trip in Brisbane, Austra- lia with his wife Jan when he unex- pectedly passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017. The news sent shock waves through the dog world as it was announced by Dennis Sprung at our AKC Delegate meetings the following morning. Just eighteen months earlier fam- ily and close friends gathered in the Florida Keyes for Steve's marriage to Jan Ritchie. He found his soulmate. They had everything in common. It was the happiest I had ever seen Steve!

Everyone shared their joy as Steve was preceded in death by his first wife Mariann who was also a beloved mem- ber of the dog world. Raised in Roslyn, New York, Steve was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He lived in Monroe County for more than 35 years. There he practiced real estate law and bred Cardigan Welsh Corgis. As a breeder and exhibitor, his dogs earned more than 100 American Ken- nel Club titles. Steve served the sport of purebred dogs in many capacities. In addition to becoming a well respected AKC judge and serving on the current AKC Board of Directors, he served as

president of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America. He was also a board member of the AKC Canine Health Foundation and AKC Reunite. As an internationally rec- ognized dog show judge, he and Jan traveled the world enjoying their pas- sion of participating in the sport of purebred dogs. Steve was a gentle giant who made people feel special to him. I was blessed to be one of those friends. His friends at AraMedia Group extend our love and sincere sympathy to Steve's family and especially to his lovely wife Jan Ritchie Gladstone. We will always remember Steve and his many contributions to our sport.

“WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER STEVE AND HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR SPORT.”
