JAY RICHARDSON

WHWTCA for 10 years and I love monitoring prospective judges for my breed. GERRY MEISELS

I live in Elgin, Illinois, a western sub- urb of Chicago. When I’m not doing something with dogs I like to cook, do the laundry and cut the grass. I’ve been in dogs for over 50 years now, I showed my first dog when I was ten and have been judging for about 22 years now.

I have a PhD. in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame. I also found and head The Coalition for Science Lit- eracy at the University of South Florida, which works to improve science teach- ing methods from elementary school through college. I’m on the Westie Judges Education Committee for the WHWT- CA and serve on the board of directors

of the club. I’m also an AKC delegate for the St. Petersburg Dog Fanciers Association. My wife and I live in a small, semi- rural community about 12 miles from Tampa city center and eight miles from the sprawling campus of the University of South Florida, where I work. We live in six partially wood- ed acres and live primarily for our dogs. One of the things I most value about showing dogs is all the wonderful friend- ships we have made through the years from coast to coast and around the world. We acquired our first show Westie in 1959 from Barbara Keenan. Our first dog was a daughter Ch. Elfinbrook Simon, a Westminster BIS winner. We have shown Westies continuously for the last 57 years, making over 50 champions and having many number one and top ten Westies. I began judging in 1972 and I judge all Terriers and Best in Show. LISA PACHECO

Living in Cincinnati, Ohio, there is always something to do if you so desire. There really is a good life outside of the dog world. Whenever possible I enjoy traveling (during college I interviewed to be an airline stewardess). I am a member of the Cincinnati Woman’s Club which offers many activities. Of course, there are family gatherings and responsibili-

ties. I enjoy life at home with my husband, our dogs and the 18-year-old cat. After researching several pure bred breeds, I became captivated by the West Highland White Terrier. The Westie was the answer to all of my requirements for a canine companion. I could not resist that face, the toughness, atti- tude and the overall appearance. In 1972, I thought my passion for the breed was fulfilled when MarWood’s Lady Heatherton came into my life, but time has shown it was only the beginning of a lifelong love and devotion. After 18 to 20 years as an exhibitor, I began judging in 1990. At this present time I judge the Terrier Group, Toy Group, Non Sporting Group, Best in Show, Mis- cellaneous Group and Juniors. Also, as I study the Sporting breeds, I judge ten Spaniel breeds. The world of pure bred dogs has taken me to almost every state in the union includ- ing Hawaii, then on to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and China.

I have been breeding and exhibiting Westies for over twenty years. With the help of some great mentorship and a few tears along the way I found my passion as a breeder owner handler. Today I breed and show my dogs under the prefix Wild- wood Westies that I proudly share with Deb Sullivan. In my real life my husband (a retired police officer) and I own and

run a grooming shop and boarding kennel. I guess you could say I eat sleep and live dogs 24/7. I like to give credit to my husband for teaching me most of what I know about dogs and for helping me find my wings so I could soar in this crazy world we share. Some of my proudest achievements include winning BOB at our National Specialty at Montgomery in 2014 under a well respected breeder judge and winning BOB at Westminster in 2015 (thank you Lou). I am honored that I have been asked to judge our National Sweepstakes next year and am really looking forward to the assignment. I love puppies! If I have one piece of advice to give it is to never stop learning.
