1. When and where was your first National? BH: Uncertain—the Bloodhound breed was first recognized by the American Kennel Club around 1888 under the name of the Bloodhound Club of America. The American Bloodhound Club was formed in 1952 to encourage and promote quality in the breeding of purebred Blood- hounds and to protect and advance the interest of the breed. Websites: American Bloodhound Club— www.americanbloodhoundclub.org. BT: In Arizona and outdoors. ESS: 1956 at Grosse Point, Michigan; judge was Thomas C. Lenfesty. IH: Scottsdale, Arizona, the judge was Russell McFadden Conf and Peter Viveiros Sweeps in the spring of 1993. IG: The first IGCA National was outdoors on September 11, 1960 held in conjunction with the Westchester Kennel Club show; the judge was Mrs. Edith Nash Hellerman with an entry of 33. GSMD: 1995 was the first National with judge Richard Tang in Lexington, Kentucky. It was an outdoor show with 68 entries. NSDTR: The first Specialty was held in Timonium Maryland, October 21, 1989. The judges were Marjorie Martorella and Jewel Walton. It was indoors with an entry of 29. The BISS was NSDTRC CH/Can CH Bhalgair of Lennoxlove Can CD, WCI; this was not an AKC event yet. P: The first Pekingese Club of America’s show was a society event held 1/18/1911 in the ballroom of Nabhattan’s Plaza Hotel. The judge was club founder Mrs. Benjamin Guin- ness. Her breed winner was Tsang of Downshire. WPG: The American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Associa- tion was formed in 1990 and recognized by the AKC as the national parent club for Griffons in 1991. Prior to that we can go into a lot of history of the breed, but it suffices to say the breed was originally developed and breed stan- dard published in Europe by Eduard Karel Korthals in the late 1880s. It wasn’t till 1916 when Griffons first exhib- ited at Westminster Kennel Club. I can’t be totally certain of this, but I believe our first National Specialty was in 1993. You can find out more details about the breed on our parent club website, www.awpga.com , under the The Griff tab.
