Showsight January 2018

Brandi T. Hunter AKC Vice President of Communications and Public Relations

EACH YEAR AT THE AKC NATIONAL Championship presented by Royal Canin is bigger and better than the last. The dogs, the owners and handlers, the com- petitions—the media cannot get enough and it is always wonderful to see how they engage with the exhibitors. The sport is filled with such amazing stories that can go on for days and each year, the media outlets find new ways to cover it. Being on the floor is not always easy (comfy shoes are a must!), but you simply cannot beat it! The feedback from

participants and consumers is in real time and helps us get better for next year. With thousands of dogs and people representing all walks of life, our National Championship is beyond my favorite event throughout the year. –Brandi Hunter

An In-Ring Observation: Inge Semensschin Judge

WAS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME JUDGING AT THIS SHOW? Yes this was the first time I judged this show, which is one of its kind.

HOW DID THIS YEAR RANK UP AGAINST OTHERS YOU’VE ATTENDED? The only ones that I attended were the ones in Long Beach and I was a spectator, wishing I was in the ring with the many many great dogs. WHAT IMPACT DOES THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HAVE ON OUR SPORT? ON THE GENERAL PUB- LIC? I feel the impact in general, is that we see the best in each breed, and many of them. Spectators come away from this show getting a template what this breed looks like and the opportunity to view them close up after the show. These are the dogs that will produce great ones in the future. WHAT WAS THE QUALITY OF YOUR ENTRY? The quality of my entries was as great as it can be. My Xolo entry was amazing, Just to mention one, Some of my decisions were hairsplitting. Each breed showed high quality and many to sort through to find the best representing their breed. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE SHOW? Of the many wonderful things to come to Orlando and participate at this level, my favorite part was the judg- ing, all of them. I loved my assignment. I was told I was so serious in the ring, yes, I concentrated. ANY OTHER THOUGHTS YOU HAVE ABOUT THE SHOW? Congratulations is due, putting on this kind of show, and making it run like clockwork. AKC at their Best. That part was very impressive, but very enjoyable!
